I would bite the bullet and by the pair if you like the car.
We've done favours for good customers in the past, tried used parts, tried kits that are supposed to convert them to normal, they never seem to work.

In the long run its usually cheaper to buy the right part first time with nivomats!

HI,

VOC membership gets you a 10% discount. Or try FRF Volvo and see what price they will do them for.

I have 2009 S80 2.4 D with Nivomats, one of the shocks is leaking. Since there's absolutely no used ones to be found anywhere, I was thinking of converting to standard absorbers. Do you know what are the difference and what would be needed(apart from absorbers obviously and springs I guess?).
Thx

The mounts are different for the self-levelling Nivomats. I'm fairly sure that to attempt to replace with standard shocks means changing other parts of the multilink setup. Mine had to be replaced at around 170k and I decided to bite the bullet and shell out for the Nivomats

Shock absorbers, springs and lower parts of the multilink assembly (wishbone or whatever it's called in English).
Considering how much better our XC70 with Nivomat is, compared to the one we have without Nivomat, I'd never give up the Nivomat.

How much self-levelling should one expect from the Nivomats?

I just ask, as we loaded the car up at the weekend with a load of heavy clay soil from the garden (I'd reckon around 150kg), and the car was low, even with most of the weight being shoved in front of the rear axle.

I've got a similar weight in the car currently, and the rear looks a bit lower than normal, but less so than I'd expect with normal shocks.

I'm assuming mine has Nivomats as when I've jacked it up to remove the rear wheels, it sits way high until driven a short distance!

Thanks,

Nick

Hi,

As above, after a couple of miles driving they will pump themselves up and level the car.
And they are obligatory if you have HID's fitted as standard.

Thanks chaps, but that's my concern; I'd driven about 10 miles to the tip on Saturday and the car was low, and I've driven 285 miles today, and it's low.

Does it 'sag' when you stop?

And yep, mine's got HID's and the level's looked fine with the self-levelling today, no flashes from other drivers.

Just feeling a little sensitive after the recent electrical problems (had a couple of other weird gremlins over the past couple of days too), and now finding new discs and pads needed, and gearbox starting to get a bit clunky...I reckon I'm in for some expense soon, and would rather not need new rear shocks too!

And please don't take that as a typical forum "This car's crap!" comment, it's just an older car that's ticked over 100k, so kinda expecting things to start cropping up, but I still love it!

Thanks,

Nick

Are they? I am a bit ignorant to these things. I have active Xenons, I am sure I don’t have self levelling? Or is Xenons different to HID?
