Default 940 very slight oil leak from sum nut or gasket

hi all
has anyone got a easy fix for stopping the oil leak getting worse . i have pinched the 2 nuts up a tiny bit as they are only 6mm i think short bolts . the lack maybe from the bolt hole but it could be the gasket . looks a big job if oil leak gets worse which it will probably . all advice most welcome
regards jim

Hi Jim,

As with any leak, it might be a good idea to clean down the suspect areas first and then inspect the where the oil reappears to confirm it's actual source.

If you are talking about the camshaft cover then check that all the nuts (there are studs, not bolts) are tight. If that doesn't do the trick then it might be time to consider a new gasket as your car is over 22 years old now!

If you are talking about the sump plug then again check tightness but be careful as oil pan is aluminium. If that doesn't fix it then get a new sealing washer.

Would definalty mirror the above - get the area nice and clean to work out exactly what is leaking, this is often half the battle!

hi thanks to you both for your advice i will clean the area when i get some time and light . kev you are familiar with this engine the leak is at the front of the sump there is a bolt going horizontal into the engine about 6 mm thread same as the vertical bolts there is a bit of oil there as its higher up just above the sump gasket but it could be the gasket not the bolt its tiny at the moment but will keep a close eye on it thanks again!

hi kev i changed my sump plug drain off to a valve type set up years ago you screw the fitting into the sump plug hole with a short piece of plastic pipe to the fitting no more sump plug washers required and the valve release is only finger tight so no spanners required too !
