Default Sunroof Help / Advice

I have a 2010 V70 R-Design with the factory fitted sunroof .

It has stuck in the partially closed position with the rear part of the panel just below the roof level.

The motor seems to be powered and there are no blown fuses.
The alarm siren works just fine and all the other accessories are working as they should.

My pressing need is to figure out how to manually close it as rain is forecast for Edinburgh later this afternoon.

I have searched the forum and done the web search but all the info on manual closing is for earlier models or describe fittings that look nothing like the motor assembly I have in the car .

Any insights would be welcome !

Unable to see the photo's you've posted but does it open? It may just be something as simple as there's something blocking it that needs removing!

No movement at all, the motor can be heard actuating but the panel is fixed in the one position ...

We had ours stick a couple of times years ago. Try putting your hand flat on the bottom of the glass and help the panel move as you press the button. Try using the tilt controls instead of slide, or vice-versa.

Just had another go at it with a large "sea sucker " on the glass panel whilst operating the switch , no luck , still firmly in one place .

There is a 4mm socket in the motor unit that seems to be connected to something via a fairly hi torque gear , but its not moving the panel .....

Is there a manual close mechanism for this ?

Hi,

Downloaded, resized and uploaded images. Attached.

Problems I have had with sunrooves on 900 series are usually related to the rails on each side that transport the roof up into tilt or down and back in slide.
The usual culprit is the plastic "cover" on either side of the rail. This has a tendency to harden and break over time, the resultant broken bits end up in the rail itself and thus hinder movement of the roof.

I believe that you should be able to remove the glass panel and this will give access to the mechanics of the rails to check and clear out any broken pieces of plastic.

That is, of course, if the set-up on the newer cars is similar to that on the 900/90 series.

Des. . .

I had a similar problem with ours a few years back. Same deal: got home, rain in forecast and sunroof would not close. I called the dealership as I was totally stumped and they said to let it be and try it again in while. Sure enough a couple of hours later it worked fine. Never happened again. I might be tempted to disconnect the battery and rget connect to see if that wakes things up. Otherwise throw a tarp on there and try it again tomorrow.
