I recently bought a service kit on the Bay for just over £28 inc postage which included oil, diesel and air filter for the S60 D5. Made by Comline, they seem great quality. So together with some Total Quartz Energy 9000 0w-30 oil (the correct grade as in the handbook) at £45 for 7L inc postage, I paid half the price of the "genuine" Volvo service kit, also for sale on the Bay at £150ish including oil, but I can't remember which brand it was.

So if it's just a a case of paying more because it has "Volvo" on the packaging but is infact made by a third party and of the same quailty as OEM, then it's a rip-off. I understand owners of new or newish vehicles wanting to use genuine Volvo parts to maintain warranty stipulations, but for the rest of us, it makes no sense, surely?

What do we think?

Mann seem to make 2 HU 719/8 filters. HU 719/8 x and HU 719/8 y.

Is there a difference?

It's no problem to use 'y' if you need Volvo part 30788821 superseded by 8692305 The 'y' version is the same application as 'x' with this volvo number but isn't compatible with Ford engines so you'll probably find less of them anyway.
Parts stockists will probably hold the 'x' version because it's suitable for more customers across two manufacturers.
Check which Volvo part you need first though.

Thanks Cheshire.

I buy Volvo filter 30788821 which for some reason has 30788490 on the box!.

Looked at a genuine one I had and it says MANN HU 719/8 on the filter along with 30788821 (not that I didn't believe you).

Strange....... They're both filter part numbers for a D5 but they are 2 different filters.
Was it bought from a main dealer or elsewhere?

Main dealer. Can't find any previous paperwork to compare.

Things should not be this difficult. There are enough numbers to give each filter a separate and unique number!

Yes there is a difference between HU719/8y and HU719/8x this came from mann filters themselves the seals are different so if you use an 8x where a 8y is required it will leak

That doesn't make sense as neither filter is fitted with a seal.
The sealing comes from the separate o-ring supplied in the box.
Do you have link to where you got the info please?
