Don't be put off by people who open the ECU to map it. It's bread and butter for experienced tuners

Hi,
I only work on my own ECUS as If I mess up it is my car and I have cloned ecu to plug in so car will still be ok, bit if I mess up anyones car that is not mine , they are stuck hear, you never know what can go wrong,
yes with the correct hardware/software you can program the ecu without removing it, I have modded one of my ecus so I can program it in the car,I have to put the ecu into boot mode, so them you can read and write to the flash rom (were the map is held) but to do this you have to put one of the flashrom pines to 0V when the ecu is powerd up,
then remove that connection , then I use mpps software to read/wright and correct the check sum, if the checksum is not correct the car will not run,
I have also got a eprom programmer , but then you have to remove the flash rom to program it,
but the one I am using now I can change from high BHP map to the Volvo original 163bhp by remote control when driving ,I have used a flashrom with 2x the size so I can fit both maps in it ,
Dave

Ok odd question, I've just looked on eBay for ecu, there's loads for my car, if I bought one would it be straight swap to fit it, or is my ecu programmed for my car
