New XC90: Power Child Locks

Hello everyone,

We are currently in the process of buying a XC90 D5 SE Lux and are wondering how the Power child locks option works.

Does it replace the manual child safety locks of the rear doors?

Do we need to press it each time we turn the engine on? Or does it remember the function automaically?

The other options we are adding are:

The power child locks have button on the front console once switched on they remain activated even after turning the car off and on. A light on the button indicates they are on. To deactivate just press the button and light will go off and car will keep the current setting in memory until the next time the button is pressed.

There is also the facility to lock all doors automatically on drive-off. The only down-side is you have to press the unlock button on the fob if you want to gain access to the rear seats or luggage compartment afterwards. You can set this up yourselfr. Step by step instructions in owner's handbook.

They are an absolutely fantastic feature and we are really pleased we specified them for our car. When the Mrs has returned later I will look to see if there remains the manual option in the doors - I haven't looked..

However you can't operate them when the ignition is turned off - so make sure you switch them off before you turn the engine off when parking!

Also once you have turned them off they remain off when you next turn the engine on so there is a good chance you could be driving along having forgotten to switch them back on. This is maybe the feature I would like to see improved - that they lock automatically when the car starts moving - like you can do with the central locking.

For the £80 or so it's a no-brainer in my opinion..

The manual option to 'child lock' the rear doors exists on my new Exec, open door, inset key, turn, usual thing - we didn't bother with power rear locks as the manual option is easy enough and I wasn't looking to be able to enable/disable it rergularly, plus another electric gismo to wrong, potential of someone accidentally hitting the button, forgetting to turn it back on etc, I guess t depends how old your kids are and a deal of other factors etc etc.

The locking on drive off works fine, around 5 MPH all the doors lock, though of course this is NOT child locks as should they pull the leaver it will unlock them so a nice, but comepletely different feature.
