Default XC90 roof rail removal/ water ingress

I am pretty sure one of the water leaks into the drivers side footwell is from the roof rails on my 2005 XC90, I do not have a sun roof and I have sealed up between the bodywork and windscreen with a good quality sealant, pouring water down from the top of the screen things look ok but as soon I pour water on the roof water enters the vehicle splashing onto the front of the CEM and over the fuses.

I spent some time sealing up around the rubber gasket on both the front and middle mountings trying not to apply more than was required but it hasn't worked properly as water is still entering the vehicle Do the rails secure from outside the vehicle or will I need to remove the roof lining to get to the mounting bolts? any advise appreciated.

The plastic covers just clip off, and there are bolts underneath that go down into cative nuts in the roof. Can't remember specifically, but suspect they will be Torx. After refitting, the covers then just clip back on.
