Cool Problems with 2007 XC90

Hi, my Wife recently collected her 2007 spec XC90. We have had a few problems with it which I wanted to share and see if other's have had similar problems;

Problems noted to date.

*Puncture mark in the leather of the 3rd row seat (driver's side). The dealer said it was interfering with the seat brackets and couldn't be helped...although they have ordered new seats

*Really annoyingly there is a piece of black foam jammed between the dashboard and the front wind screen (passengers side - left for those in the US). The dealer says it's there for soundproofing and to stop rattles and is on every model. Whilst I can beleive it's for sound deadening I can't beleive it's placed in such a way on all models as to look lke someone has stuffed in place as an after thought.

*Stitching on driver's side leather seat coming undone already

*Carpet in driver's foot well (left of brake pedal) keeps coming away from side.

*Rear parking sensor intermittently sounds continuously when reversing (even when no objects are near). At this point if you put the gearbox into Park the alarm stops, move to reverse and the alarm sounds. Turn the engine completely off , restart and place gearbox into reverse then no alarm sounds. Parking sensor works as usual.

I'd appreciate any feedback on the rear parking sensor and sound deadening foam as I think I'm being given the run around by the dealer

Thinking about it, had the same piece on the last one (05 D5SE) but can not say I have noticed on the current one ???? (D5 Exe) will have a look tomorrow

Re the other bits, the dealer should sort them out, Ask/demand to try another with rear park, to show them what's wrong/different to yours.

On my 5th at present, and no problem with any, bar the steering arm recall,a duff Bi-x headlamp !!

Default Foam around windscreen

Hi there,

My April 2006 XC90 has the same rectangle of foam stuffed between the dashboard and the windscreen. To be honest, it caught my eye and I thought it a bit odd on a car of this class. I assumed it was to avoid rattles but would have expected a better solution from Volvo.

Having said that, I hate rattles and so I have learned to ignore the foam such that I don't see it anymore. I think your dealer is telling you the truth on this issue as it appears all XC90's have it.

More generally, I would expect the dealer to resolve the other matters to your satisfaction. The carpet, seats and stiching is an unacceptable fault in a new car of this value.

The parking sensors should be quite reliable. Mine very, very occassionaly behave in a whacky way. Mainly when a City of Edinburgh bus or motorbike comes near - for some reason they seem to do something that makes the sensors beep for a second - wierd.

All the best.

I have a 05 XC90 and i also have that foam piece in the between the dash and the windscreen. I had no idea why it was there but it does cover the VIN plate on the screen. I also have a little escort i use for the station and i have also covered this VIn number on my brothers advice(works for a ford dealership) as people copy the number, and reg and clone cars, i.e you end up with endless parking congestion charge tickets and speeding tickets. Maybe they have done it for the same reason ????

Hi,

I had the same carpet problem on my 2006 XC90. Fixed by dealer at 3000 mile checkup. Also a couple of stiches coming off on passenger seat, will ask dealer to fix next time I am there (hopefully at annual service !!!). No problems with parking sensors and will need to look to see if I have any foam ... not noticed any. Did have a piece of plastic on the drivers side between windscreen and dashboard, but I ripped it off as it annoyed me .... no adverse rattling.

Had it 6 months now and still think it is a great car.

Regards,
Patrick.

My 2003 also had the piece of foam so it must be a long-standing issue. My wife kept asking me about it but I had no answer. I'm still doubtful about the rattle thing...

Our 2007 XC90 has the exact same problem with the parking sensors. The dealer has said that they can't find a problem. My wife has lost confidence in them altogether (the sensors not the dealers). She thinks the problem is caused by the rain.

Question Cardboard stops rattle

A peice of cardboard in between dash & w/screen nr the VIN seems to stop the rattle. I tried this after reading posts here. Thanx, still very unsatisfactory as I have just bought the XC90 last sept.

I am taking it back to VOLVO for a more elegant solution.

The piece of plastic between the dash and the windscreen is to clip your car park tickets under, according to the handbook.

No that's on the drivers side, the foam is on passengers side below the tax disc (left - UK).

Sometimes on a cold morning I've noticed the reversing sensors mistaking steam from from the exhausts as an obstacle - maybe this could be your cause?
