Unfortunately insurance is all about risks or prejudice. For example discriminated against for being, young, male, single, where I live, what I work as,what I drive, not having kids, and where I park.
I'm sure you'll find a lot of insurers impose a higher than 2000 threshold on fully comp. Possibly because any crash is pretty much a write off. Employment is another thing why as an office worker am I a higher risk than a doctor? Who knows. I know of a few people who have to put unemployed down even though clearly they are a drug dealer.

Sky has a niche of basically performance and modified cars, same as diamond does women, saga won't insure any one under 50, greenlight refuse to insure anything they don't deem fast enough.I'm sure marks and Spencer until recently would not insure over a 2.0. They have a niche to do best for that niche.the same as you get cheaper and better parts for your volvo atvolvo specialist a motor factor than you would at a halfords who do everyone and you probably wouldn't get ontoo well if you tried a fiat garage.
What would be your reaction if say a classic car specialist put up an add saying they'll give club members a good deal and I called up and they said my car was tooyoung and to call back in 15 years. sure they could be helping a lot of members but there would be a lArge percentage they would be alienating. and sure as fudge it would be some one who could not be helped that would be the first to post. at least sky have a presence on here and take time to reply, I'm on various clubs and all have club promotions and traders on there who only post adds then you never hear from them until there is another promotion going on.

I have 'thanked' your post but I would also like to say that I whole heartedly agree with what you say as well. Thank you for the sensible wording and clarification of the industry as a whole and how we (Sky) work.

We accept that insurance is a hateful industry and is one of life's evil necessaries. We accept we will pick up negative feedback along the way, as well as positive feedback from the customers we can help.

As you say, we are happy to reply where we can on our affiliated club forums,(except to sarcastic, pointless posts), we do not come on here just to spam and say, 'look at us, have you tried our scheme? etc', we are happy to answer queries and I am even happy to provide a general insurance Q&A service by PM if any member requires. How many other insurers do you see doing this?

Thanks one more time

Ollie

I called Sky for a quote a few days ago. They weren't able to help me on this occasion, but the chap I spoke to was friendly and very knowledgeable, and I will certainly be calling again when my other policies are up for renewal.

cheers

James

Just spoke to Jason at Sky myself. Very helpful chap and managed to get a cheaper price than any other broker (and I seem to have rang most of them)

Will be ringing back in the next few days to purchase the policy.

Hi all,

we're still here, I just wanted to pop a post on our thread as it has just dropped onto the second page. We are not claiming to help every member, we are claiming to be the best for everyone, we are not forcing anyone to call us but we would encourage any VOC or Volvo Forum member to contact us when you are looking around for insurance.
We are going to be better for the performance and modified car owners but also those who have their NCB tied up and are looking to insure a second car.

Feel free to ask any questions by PM or email to carclubs@skyinsurance.co.uk

Hi
My insurance isn't due for a while but I want to start looking round.
I'm interested in how your company would treat my Volvo 940.
I bought the car with a very low mileage around 40,000 miles and while it was OK to drive it struggled a bit when towing my caravan and I didn't really like the auto gearbox. Knowing what I do now at this point I should have sold it and bought another car but decided that because the car was so tidy I would change the engine and gearbox for one from a 940 Turbo.

I bought a doner car which was untidy, various body repairs and scruffy interior and swapped the engine , gearbox and any other parts needed to make my car in essence a 940 Turbo.

And now the question. Although the car has been modified from it's original specification a lot of companies will either not insure the car or will charge what seems to be an excessive extra amount. I am more than happy to pay to insure a 940 turbo (as that is what it is) would your company charge more as it is modified ?

Hi Steve,

we would have no problem insuring the vehicle, we insure many engine swapped cars, my own included. We would usually roughly base the rate on vehicle the donor engine came from.

Feel free to PM or email me your contact details when you are looking to go through a quotation.

Thanks

Ollie
