Got the tank out of the ex-chicken shed as we needed 2 cars, drove 200 mts to the bungalow got out locked it no problem. Went out to go to where I needed to be, o/s mirror won't fold out, drivers window t*ts up, you can add the words.
I didn't go where I intended and spent a lot of time searching the forum, tried a CEM reset no go. Back to standard computer fix, battery off for 30 mins (after allowing time for the car to settle), battery back on and all sorted except for the CD player doing it's own thing, which removing the disc and reinserting sorted. God how I wish for a Minor 1000 or old Mini, they didn't have the brains to 'F' you about, they ran or they didn't, and if they didn't you just got the spanners and a feeler gauge out.

There is a much simpler reason why the electric windows, mirrors and CD player didn't cause problems on a Mini or Morris Minor.......

Performed my second trannie drain & fill on my '07 at 70,530 mi., 830 mi. after the first.
OUT: 3,550ml darkened fluid-not too bad. IN: 210ml LubeGard (red bottle) + 3,340ml Valvoline MaxLife synthetic LV (Low Viscosity-meets the 3309/T-IV spec.) Or, to put it another way... OUT: 3.75 qt. IN: 7 oz. LubeGard (1 oz. / qt. system capacity) + MaxLife to fill. |

Over here, there is repeated strong advice against using any kind of additive with the auto box "spec" fluid on the basis that it can damage seals etc.....is LubeGard commonly used in the US without any problems? I fully appreciate that the US knowledge is based on wider experience gained over a longer period of time since auto boxes have been in more common use over a significantly longer period than in the UK i.e much more US user experience than the UK. Would it be right to assume that you would only put the LubeGard in after a second or even third fluid partial replacement/dump?

LubeGard makes and sells "adpacks" for the industry. Transmission rebuilders had the option of buying a base fluid in bulk and doping it according to a grand chart I've seen in may a shop throughout my life. There were silver, blue, black and other bottle colors used, hence the use of the 'red bottle' specifier.
I'm told every rebuilder uses their products. I learned of them through the oil board "Bobistheolguy.com". The lubricants in it are claimed by these people (not the manufacturer) to be superior. When I had my '02 it had the characteristic rough shifting when I got it at appx. 70K. I do not know if the vehicle ever had the infamous "stop neutral" feature engaged. I heard that Volvo turned that feature off real fast all over the world. The PO did have the fluid flushed at a dealer so it was quite clear when I got it. I soon had the TCM reloaded which helped immensely. Then, after some time, I added the LubeGard and I saw another instant improvement. Believe me, I do not trust any "mechanic in a can" (as we call 'em here) but the tribologists and chemists on the oil board vouched for this stuff. I do believe Ford diddled with the inwards of a perfect transmission. You know they messed with the programming. Also, being in the "land of the disposable car", I grew up with the belief that Ford plays with their rubber components and that it wasn't done with the consumer in mind. It worked for me and I use it. I put it into my trannie after my second drain & fill because the fluid was clean enough (in my completely inexpert opinion). I know Geley bought Volvo from Ford and I assume Geley went back to AW spec O rings etc. if Ford hadn't. I use the product because I believe it lubed my '02's unit and I don't see that doing any harm. I gave a bottle to a member over there and while I hope the need never arises, he at least has a shot at lubing a stuck valve body. NOTE: When I service the Honda autos in my world (brother's Odyssey-neighbor's Accord) I do nothing but use Honda fluids because I don't ever want to hear anything from them-not even a question regarding what brand of fluid I spent their money on. I've used Amalie, Valvoline, Mobil3309 and Toyota branded T-IV fluid in the 4 AW55-50 trannies in the family with success. I would use Amsoil, PetroCanada and that 20l blue keg from Germany you people have access to and not give it a second thought. I also believe most of these canned products are seal swellers (to stop a leak) or thick oils (to plug gaps in damaged O rings. That's what I go with and when you look at the "great wall of chemicals" offered to John Q. I use one that isn't there. The defense rests. Kira |

Auto boxes
Hi George and Kiera,I have read with interest your comments about the use of bottles of additive by the auto pros. in the US of A, I have a sticky solenoid in my auto box('96 volvp 855) wants to go into 3rd--- when pulling away. would the "red bottle" be the one to try?? where is Hackensack? by the way. greetings from your "cousins" this side of the pond.
kindest regards,Keith.
