Main reason for this is post is to get some opinions.....
1. Fuel pump - I want to get rid of the mechanical pump and fit a Facet Electric pump under the floor in front of the tank and fit a stainless delete over the hole in the engine.... any problems with doing this ? any tips ? - I'm not really sure and could be wrong but I'd be carefull to ensure not too powerful a pump as it might mess with the SU balance. Maybe that's not an issue as flow wouldn't be much. Let us know how you get on. 2. Starter Motor - whats the story with this 940 starter upgrade ? worth it ? what do I need ? - I think so, the 940 starter cranks the engine faster, is smaller and apparently draws less current. Easy upgrade, just drill the flange holes to 1/2" or 12mm and get some longer bolts to bolt in place as the 940 starter has a thicker mating flange. I think all 940s were all red engines so as long as it is for or is off a 940 red engine then it should be good to go. 3. Battery - I'm not near the car right now and want to research the best battery type and size to buy - any advice - is an optima worth the $$$ - I just got a decent battery rated for the engine size from Halfords. Don't know how good Optima are. |

Also probably best to use a mild steel plate and bolts or galvanised as over time the stainless could cause a bit of galvanic corrosion.

RE: Facet Electric Pump
I have fitted many of these in place of mechanical pumps. First, get a low pressure pump and use a good quality fuel pressure regulator to keep the supply at about 3psi.
The pump should be placed close to, and slightly lower than the fuel tank. It can be isolated using small silent-blocs, but then needs a ground strap. This will make it less obtrusive. I protect the pump with an inexpensive disposable inline fuel filter, then I protect the carburetors with another inline filter, just to be sure... A quick search shows an inexpensive, L-P Facet pump: http://www.ebay.com/itm/FACET-ELECTR...0d2fcd&vxp=mtr The mounting kit: https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pr...s.asp?RecID=98 Note that Pegasus has a good selection of pumps, as well. Armed with a description, FleaBay often produces better prices, sometimes. Two cents... |

Love this thread.
I would do some research on Optima. They use to have a very good rep. Not so sure that is still the case. Best study up.

Hi, catching-up on threads.
I have an electric fuel pump. It sits just above where the old mechanical one was, and I've been "happy as Larry" with it (did I get that right?), but maybe it could be better. I also located a factory plate for covering the hole out at JP's, I assume it came out of an FI engine which had an old block. FYI, they exist. Jim

My 3yo boy named him Walter - it was then , that moment.....
So 'Walter' the 2 door kind of pushed his way into our lives, I didn't go looking for Walter, Walter found me, and I couldn't leave him there looking like that so you know..... home he came. like a dusty old stray dog ! (the wife's words) of course there was a few things to sort out on old Walter so... being a pushy old dude he started consuming time - time stolen from my estate, but it wasn't all Walters fault.... the thing About Walter is he drives and stops and has licence plates and registration so for the first time in some time, I had a classic I could drive , and drive we did, a lot ! my Diesel BMW was starting to look like an abandoned vehicle in the driveway, every time I walked out the door with the beemer keys, Walter would give me 'that look ' and back in the bowl the bmw keys would go Walter and I became very close... the wagon - who at that point didn't even have a name - was getting very jealous ! something was gunna have to give !
