Shell V-power
Just filled my V40 1.9d 2001 estate with Shell V-Power and already noticed a smoother throttle response (even with dodgy EGR valve). I'm keeping a close eye on the average MPG and will let you know what I find.
Thing is, if this is just 'real diesel', what the heck are we buying when we buy cheap stuff??? Has anyone else tried this and what did you find? If it gives better MPG, does it work out more or less ££ overall?? |

I do sometimes use V-Power, and sometimes the car feels better to drive because of it (and I might see a very small increase in MPG). Mind you, 20 odd years ago I thought I could feel a difference when I used Redex in my Morris Ital, and I think most people now agree that Redex is snake oil, so maybe it's all phsycological...

Different car, but I don't seem to see any difference with normal Shell Diesel and V-Power.
However I do notice a slight difference when I use BG244. Just put another can in today so will see how this one goes.

The two stroke is best semi synth which conforms to: JASO FC or ISO L-EGC or EGD Sound complicated but is isn`t as it is written on most types. I go to France regularly and their diesel is not so good but you don`t notice the drop off of performance as they all drive slower over there and it is difficult to get going but upon the return to the UK the difference back to Shell Nitro does blow you away.

Filled mine up with the v power nitro the other week as had a tank of Sainsbury's in it before that and got fed up with how rattly it sounded on acceleration. Whilst it's still obviously a diesel, I'm sure its a lot quieter with v power in it. Actually enjoying driving it again now... although that might also be because I've serviced it and put new genuine discs and pads on it all the way round...
I generally put standard Texaco in it, which is somewhere between the two for the cost.

ok, got through a tankful of V-Power and not much difference :-(
The engine sounds quieter and throttle response was smoother but the MPG hasn't shifted from 54.2 average. As for placebo/psychological factors, I actually forgot what was in my tank most of the time due to work pressure and stress!!! |
