How to repair or strengthen rear light fasteners:~
This may help if you have fasteners that have pulled away from the rear light body, also useful for strengthening the same:~
Pictures attached that will clarify, the fixing stud on this lamp had pulled away even though the fixings have not been overtightened. The same lamp has the second fastener stud reinforced. Items used are 15mm copper pipe tube & J.B.Weld two pack epoxy. Cut the pipe to the appropriate length that will go over the fixing spigots. The tube may slide over the above or split it along the length and open up slightly, some differences in spigot size may exist hence the above. J.B.Weld doesn't like smooth surfaces so key the tube as well as the plastic. Apply the above into the tube & on the plastic parts- push the tube over the spigot and smooth into place. The weld will fully dry overnight and can be shaped as it begins to set- with the copper cut slightly longer you can form a bonding ring into the top surface as shown. (keep the threaded area clear) These rear lenses can also benefit from an additional gasket: closed cell neoprene cord can be cut to size with glued ends to form a gasket ring (supper glue is fine) fix the lens into place but not fully tightened. Push the new gasket home and then nip the two fasteners up. I also use a coating of waxoyl or similar to aid sealing against moisture/water. Hope it helps. Regards Bob. |
