It sounds like either the inner joint of the driveshaft has separated, or the driveshaft isn't properly located into the splines in the hub/bearing.

Inner CV turning.. Inner CV turning...

You didnt forget to re-fit the axle/driveshaft by any chance?

missed something on outer CV joint perchance?

this could be so, but im pretty sure the inner hub is butt up against the gearbox
ill look again tomorrow but im pretty sure thinking about it that when i pulled on the driveshaft to get it out it did give way... would this driveshaft problem also, allow the car to be put in gear without use of clutch? (with the engine running of course)

Not likely. If you can put the car in gear without using the clutch with the engine running, it would tell me that the clutch friction plate is not properly mating with the flywheel. It could be slipping, which might explain your lack of drive.

mmm thats puzzling cause it all went in as per normal. my friend got in the car and went through all the gears with clutch down and all was fine no grinding or anything but as he lifted the clutch up as if to drive away thats when i spotted the inner cv spinning and giving me no drive., does this help?

Just to re-cap.

The car is on the ground with its wheels on.

The engine is running, clutch engaged and in gear.

One driveshaft is stationary and the inner CV joint on the other shaft is spinning, but the car is not moving forward.

If the above is correct it points to a break in the power transmission through the driveshaft to the wheel.

If the inner CV joint is spinning, but the driveshaft is not turning, the break is in the inner CV joint. If the driveshaft is spinning, but the wheel not turning, the issue is in the outer CV joint or the hub. Something is clearly not assembled correctly or completely missing.

I think the only way to find out what the problem is: is to remove the driveshaft and inspect all the components. The problem is clearly located at the point where the components stop turning. It does seem very strange and in theory impossible to happen, but it has, so needs dismantling to find the cause.

Good luck and do keep us posted.
