Well, I reckon you should have had another category for independent Volvo specialist. I go to GB Autos in Worcester Park.

Robbijay My S60 looked as beautiful as yours until I drove it for the last 4 years while keeping it in London! It is still great but has one of two little probs and I wonder if your Tame local Mechanic is able to throw any light on my Total lack of Dash Board lights. It started to disappear then come on again a few times. Now has stopped illuminating at all. i.e. no speedo or indicator clicker etc etc... I assume it is probably one common connection somewhere or a relay.

Great if you or garage can help.

Regards

Thanks!

I am quite sad when it comes to looking after it, although I don't do a full detail - the wife would get cross if I spent more time with the car than I do with her!!

As far as the dash is concerned, I assume you've checked all the fuses? other than that it soulds like a multi-connectoer at the back, or (afraid to say) a dead instrument cluster. My wife instrument cluster died in her 03 Focus, 'luckily' for us it was a known issue so Ford did it at cost.

I think another user here has had to replace their instrument cluster, but can't remember who, have you tried a search?

Serviced religiously by DPA Volvo Specialist in Nottingham always insisting on OE Volvo parts in general.

Also use a performance specialist for performance related issues if DPA specialists are not able to quickly pinpoint a performance related fault.

A very good friend of mine works in a local independent so he looks after mine for beer

I service my own bikes and very much capable of doing the cars too, but getting someone else to do it all at head height up on a proper car lift (as opposed to small ramps and crawling around underneath it) is so much easier ...esp when they work for beer

I do work on them myself if it is something I fancy doing

Mostly it's down to me.

Things like timing belts on the now departed GDI where paying the local specialist to do it cost not a huge amount more than buying the tools and doing it myself get farmed out.

I do most of the servicing on my car myself. In situations where I am unable to do the work I will ask a trusted local garage or a local Volvo dealer if they will carry out the work. I enjoy doing the work myself and learn more about my car and its state of repair. Another factor for doing the work myself is that I use the car every day and it is more convenient for me to do service work when it suits me rather than have to leave the car at a garage.
