Default Volvo S60 braking - caliper and handbrake cable replaced

Hi all,

Have an issue with my car, the wheel on the driver side (back) was two days ago much hotter than the others, my mechanic said that the handbrake was stock for this reason he replaced the cable. Furthermore the old caliper needed to be replaced (all in 175 GBP). Both done and I collected the car yesterday evening, today I drove to and back from work and the wheel was hot again, called him up and he said he wants no to replace the breaking pipe... I'm bit nervous as this would be the next 30 GBP (estimation from him). Any other idea what could be wrong? I don't think that the break is stuck by very much as I can push the car without problems, I don't hear a grounding noise or anything like this. Has anyone any other ideas what could be wrong?
Thanks.

Markus

Hello, Year, trim level and mileage, PLEASE.

You might have a wheel bearing going bad. Does the car growl or rumble?

If it does, take note of any change in that sound whilst going through sweeping turns. Kira

On the other note, I just jacked my car up (only the wheel where this issue was) and spun the wheel, it was some sort of little resistance and there was a tiny bit of noise... maybe when turning the wheel back and forward a small metal sound but not really anything no noticeable... At least not for someone like me who has no clue about cars.

Your "mechanic" sounds a bit hit and miss, why replacing the brake pipes would help I have no idea..

Also seeing as he has already cost you £175 for parts that would not need replacing, I would be looking for another mechanic.

I would also be asking him as to how he came to the conclusion that the parts he has already replaced (which has not cured the problem) needed replacing.

I would guess that you might have a problem with the hand brake shoe (separate to the brake caliper). The shoe material are known to separate from its metal backing and cause damage.where about in Manchester are you?

I'm living in Sale, I saw the hand brake shoe and the brake material (what ever the black thing is on top of the metal) was at this stage connected to the metal part (if that makes any sense) at this stage he had problems with the leaver (or what ever this part is called what is connected) and sought to have resolved it and applied the foot break (without the car running) a couple of time and then the caliper was apparently stock and needed to be replaced as well. I'm just worried to go back and change the next part on the car...

When you say you saw the hand brake shoe was this after he removed the disc brake or was this when he removed the shoe from the caliper?

It was after he removed the caliper (I haven't seen the brake pads in the caliper). He first removed the Tyre, then the break disk (hope that is the correct thing to say which reviled the hand break shoe, he had a lot of problems to get it out actually.
Other strange is that the hand brake is now very stiff and hard to operate, might that be because of the new cable? Thanks again for all your help!
