I did ask if it was sides or brakes and OP seemed convinced it was side lights
Brakes would make more sense being rears only but there we go |

OP.
Hi, This really seems like a wiring issue . As Stuart says a short , a bad or wrong relay , or duff REM which is not un-common. It could be a bad ground /earth. Can you clarify , is this only happening when the car is locked ? A well known favourite is a broken wiring loom in the tailgate hinge. The 5 min thing is the clue here.. |

Thanks for your suggestions. The lights come on whether locked or unlocked & only after about 5 minutes. It is the Rear Side Lights only, that light up. Normal running, all lights are on (front & rear) I will check the wiring loom asap. |

just as a total shot in the dark I would probably email these guys https://volvodiagnostic.com/en/contact-us and ask them if it's something they've heard of
if it's fault with a module they can probably repair it for you, if not they might suggest places to look in terms of wiring personally as a temporary measure I'd probably leave the inner trim off because it makes access awkward, then just take the lamps out rather than disconnecting the battery.. at least that way you could still lock your doors (inc. tailgate) if you're tracing wiring you'll no doubt have to take all the plastic bits off anyway Last edited by stuart bowes; May 23rd, 2022 at 19:11. |

So something is powering up or pole-ing over 5 mins after switching off and removing the key....
My first instinct was the lock / deadlock circuit ... The second is alarm / immobilizer... The third is system module shutdown... You really need to identify which circuit is causing the problem . It`s easy to be drawn in to the fact that the rear lights are working incorrectly so this must be the problem area. But the rear light circuit may be fine and it is another circuit that is at fault and is affecting the lights... I don`t know the history of the car but i suggest that firstly go over it looking for anything that has been added , altered and remove it back to stock... Look for any repairs and check them over... Isolate the alarm system as much as possible ( pull fuses ,relays) and see if that makes a difference... After that your into wiring diagrams and circuit testing territory... |
