Default Timing Belt Replacement

Hi, having just purchased a 55 plate V70 with 69,000 on the clock should I have the belt done as it is 10 years old?

Thanks

Yes and use genuine parts bought at discounted prices from Volvo main dealers from eBay, change the complete cam belt kit & aux belt too. It's easy work compared with some. (No need to change the water pump unless it's leaking or the bearings feel rough.)

May well be a silly question, how do you know they are dealers on eBay?

Just Google their username if you're not sure but Caffyn's Volvo, Bell's Motor Group and Sturgess Leicester are on there

Look on the likes of Misterauto.com and look at the SKF range of cambelt kits. I did that for my 850 and everything was exactly the same part number & make to the original stuff I swapped. Bearings Made in France, tensioner pulley , despite an SKF kit was by INA, like the one I removed. For me in France, the SKF ( Volvo OE) kit was cheaper from that site then from Volvo mainstealers
Haven't done a V70, dont like the look of sorting the tensioner thingy. Will get my mobile-mec to do that one.....

I will be using my local indi garage, he specialises in Volvo,BMW and Mercedes. Used him since becoming a Volvo owner. And when purchasing my recent one took the car in to assess what needed done. We have just done the lower control arms and the LED on the rear cluster. Did advise the timing belt because of the cars age. Ps, he only uses Volvo parts

Default Timing belt replacement.

Personally I would not buy timing belts - even Volvo parts - off auction sites. There just isn't any need to. Just contact FRF Volvo at Swansea and quote discount code C3 for a most competitive price.
I did ask one seller of a "genuine Volvo belt" whether it was new old stock - no reply!
If you consider the possibility that the "new" belt you buy may already be a few years old, it all seems rather pointless, in preference to buying from a genuine volume supplier.

FRF are very helpful and their prices sensible too.
Yes there's always a better price somewhere but is it worth it for peace of mind on critical parts ?

I once bought a timing belt on evilbuy, it must have been 20. Years old, dry knackered rubber. Didn't fit it. Should have sent it back etc but wasn't well.
Don't do it.

I would agree with you where general parts sellers are concerned, but a main dealer seller will be okay, and eBay often tells you how many of that item have been sold already. It will be the next one off the shelf whether it is to be posted out to a eBay customer or fitted to someone's car in their workshop.
