Default 2006 V70 Towbar Software Upgrade

I am a bout to fit a towbar to the V70 and phoned the local Volvo dealer today to order a 7 pin wiring kit. I am not sure if they quoted me for the correct stuff as it only came to £47 ex vat. Anyway they also said that a software upgrade was required. After doing a bit of research I think this is for disabling the car fog lights when a trailer/caravan is connected. So am I correct in thinking that I wont need this if I don't connect the fog light circuit to the trailer socket?

yes it is to dissable the fog lights,no it will not work as your car fog lights will still be active without the software when you connect up. you could of course try it and see. also clan mentioned about the DSTC function do a search as it may effect that it you have it see last post by clan

The above in relation to fog lights is correct however when i fitted my Genuine Volvo 13 pin electrics kit i decided against paying for the dealer software update based on the fact that:-

How often do you ACTUALLY use your rear fog light in the first place and that is compounded by the fact that it only ever going to be an issue if you actually had the caravan on the back when doing so.

I have had no issues with DSTC since fitting.

Thanks for the replies. I have access to VIDA & the instructions for fitting the wiring kit don't mention the DSTC, but it does tell you that connecting the blue fog light wire is optional, & only says to add the software for that function.
I am guessing that the DSTC function is for the next/current generation of Volvo, not the P2.

when i purchaed my car the tow bar had been fitted by volvo with 13 pin electrics. when i hooked up to the van for the first time the ATC.did not work. checked all the pins and two had no live feed which should have had. traced back to the multi plug checked the feed in to the cars loom plug no live feed there.the loom that is already in the car goes to the REM in the left hand rear panel, checked that out and the two wires that i needed had been cut why i do not no, so i had to brake out from the battery with in line fuses to the tow bar multiplug.

VIDA.....DSTC............

EH? What? Is this some strange Martian language?

This is a joke right? An early April fool?

A SOFTWARE UPGRADE to fit a towbar socket?

HaHaHa HaHaHaHa

Tell you what. Between us we reckon we could fit and wire up a towbar socket on BOTH our 940's within 45 minutes!!

Get's more unbelievable by the day what crap these modern cars need to make them work. Absolutely crazy.

I've just fallen off my chair laughing. My mate, who's here to check out something on our PC is still p***ing himself in the other room.

They call this progress?

HaHaHaHa HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa

even the 940 had special tow bar wiring to avoid burning out the bulb fail device . The side lights had to be run down to the fuse box , the stop lights had to be run direct to the stop light switch and the indicators had to be run to the front to instal with the Transflash ..

correction 0n 240 and 740 , the 740 and 940 overlapped around 1991 ...! 940 has a pre routed cable in the boot .

EH!..........What? Not so:

The 940 has a ready wired towing socket built into the loom as supplied when the car is new. It's in the n/s underfloor compartment in the loadspace.. (Estates) or in the boot behind the the n/s wheel arch into which the Volvo towing electrics plug straight in. The car is supplied with the male part of the plug already in the socket.

All an owner/fitter has to do is remove the plug, strip back the wires from the socket/s , put the pins on, connect it to the socket, and plug it in. Job done.

I did it on mine last summer. Took me about 20 minutes.

i would suspect the reason you do not connect the blue fog light wire is if your caravan has fog lights fitted / trailer, all newish caravans have fog lights and ATC
