VEA D4 'bank 1 O2 sensor slow'?
I've twice now had the engine warning light come on and found DTC P014c; each time I have been able to delete this DTC and the engine light then goes off, at least for several hundred miles. But I'm now waiting for it to come on a third time!
The car has done 67k miles and, previous to my ownership, has apparently had the EGR cooler modified (no T-piece on upper rad hose). But other than the stamped service book, I have no history for the car. It does run very well though, even when the engine warning light is illuminated. Other forum threads suggest that the bank 1 oxygen sensor being slow to respond is the likely culprit and that cleaning this sensor could be beneficial... Please can someone confirm this? If so, please can advice also be given on how I locate this sensor, how I can remove/refit it (is a new gasket needed?) and how it can best be cleaned? I'm an experienced DIY car mechanic with decent garage facilities, but I know next to nothing about Volvo diesel engines! It also seems that a software fix is available at Volvo dealers for this issue. Please can anyone confirm if this can be addressed during a routine service? Thanks Jon

And today, 300 miles since the last reset, the engine warning light has come on again with DTC P014c stored (which I have deleted).
I'm still hoping that someone can give me a little practical advice please.

Can anyone suggest where I might find the information I need? For example, does VIDA give schematics, diagrams and assembly instructions for this engine?

Hi, we bought a V60 VEA D4 2 months ago, 10 days after this the engine light came on and same fault code, we took it to the dealers who cleaned the o2 sensor and did a software update free of charge and it’s been fine since. Our car is just over 4 years old and had 32,000 miles and a full Volvo history so not under warranty but Volvo apparently did it as goodwill. Hope this helps, Luke

That's great. Thanks for your reply.
Was the dealer who carried out the work the same place that had sold you the car 10 days previously? Or did you just turn up out of the blue and report the problem? Any chance you could name the dealer please?

Hi, We bought the car from a small car trader in Southampton but live in Doncaster, about 150 miles away, the warranty we got for the trader was literally if we have a problem we take it to a local garage and pay for it then they refund us (sounds dodgy I know) so when the engine light came on, I checked the fault code, read on the forum other people saying it would need the software update so booked it in to Riverside Volvo in Doncaster, when my missus went to pick it up they said there is nothing to pay because Volvo had paid as goodwill, like I said ours had a full Volvo history (from Southampton) and only 30k miles, I know yours has more miles but is newer so imagine it would be similar, I think Volvo recognise they have a problem and even if they don’t cover the entire cost I think they’d contribute to it, and I guess they’re the only ones that can do the software update anyway! If I can be any more help feel free to ask, I’m new to this forum so not entirely sure how everything works, hope this helps,
Luke |

Thanks.
As I'm struggling to get any practical advice on fixing this myself, it looks like I'll be going to a dealer (then I'll get the software fix as well). Unfortunately Doncaster isn't convenient for me though!
