D5 was a 205bhp upto 2011, September 2011 onwards it was upgraded to a 215bhp.
Don't forget if you pole* it your insurance may go up as a modification, maybe cheaper to just get the D5. Worth finding out before buying.

This is what Clan is saying - the 5 cylinder engine that we know as "D5" was sold as a twin turbo 215 version (badged D5) and single turbo 163 version (badged D4).

Is it common that the insurance is different in the UK, if you add Polestar? In Sweden it makes no difference at all. And Polestar is the only optimization they can see, as all other such things are illegal, and thus can't be registered.

From what I've heard the D4 (D5244T12, 181 hp/420 Nm), which is in our XC70 D4 AWD 2016, is mechanically identical to the D5 (D5244T15, 230 hp/470 Nm) in my XC70 D5 AWD 2012. The difference is the software, in this case even more so, since the D5 has been updated with the Polestar software.

The last version of the five-cylinder D5, D5244T20, delivered 220 hp and 440 Nm in it's stock configuration.

For definitive engine denominations, refer to the Polestar site (e.g. this is the XC70 D4 page):

https://engineered.polestar.com/uk/u...uk&engineId=42

If it doesn’t appear as a link, copy & paste (without url prefix & suffix)

That varies between insurers, there is not a consistent answer other than you are obliged to inform them. Some charge an extra small amount, some just see it as a factory option and don’t charge for it.

Very true - and some variation with the same company.
Esure initially quoted me an extra £70 for P* on my 2008 XC70 Sport, reduced to £40 when I complained.
Then when changing to a 2012, there was no extra - nor with the 2015...
So it pays to haggle or shop around - but, unless you want to give them an excuse not to settle a claim, you MUST inform them.

In Sweden, you are obliged to do a limited registration inspection, where the new engine specification is recorded into the national vehicle administration's registers. Hence the insurance companies will see it there.
Unless you forget to do the inspection.

Thanks to the collective for their responses.
I've been digging around the Polestar and Swedish salvage sites and have determined the number of turbos across the range of Volvo diesel engines fitted to the P3 XC70.
Without more specifics around variations in other parts such as injectors to my lay-eyes the 2.4 diesel engines post 2010 were twin turbos so ECU programming would be the most likely reason for the power outputs.
