Check the condition of the slider boots (these are the rubbers that the pins slide into). It is possible that they have perished and are allowing for extra movement. Make sure that the caliper is bolted securely to the carrier. Are you sure that all parts of the caliper are present? I've not had a pleasure to do a v50 caliper yet but usually both sides have some kind of spring/anti chatter arrangement, like a tab bridging between the pins or something like that.

I had 2 new tyres today, told the fitter about my brakes and he had a look-
he thinks its the pads not being genuine volvo oe thats the problem (motaquip fitted), and to make some shims to take up the slack.
Will try this tomorrow and report back.

WTF!!!

These are brakes your on about here?? You don't just make up shims to take up the slack.

Just bite the bullet and play it safe for not only yourself but for every other driver that happens to use the same bit of road as you.

Just get thepads changed and go for OEM, I'm not saying OEM is the best for everything but OEM pads from what I've read on here are almost 2nd to none. The old saying buy cheap buy twice strikes again.

Of course it is totally up to you but I really really don't think you should be adding shims to brake parts to take up slack in the pads.
