lpg conversion
hi there ive just had my 1998 volvo v70 est converted to lpg its great and only 45p a ltr, you cannot feel the change over and the engine seems to run smoother. it cost 1550 to covert but i recon ill get me mony back in no time. the only draw back is my insurance wants to charge me 60 pounds for this conversion which i thinck is silly as they do not charge for new polices what do you think im not improving the performance and im am greener so looks like thay are taking me for a ride ged

Oftern thought of getting a convertion done,is there any noticable change in performance?.Are there any pitfalls?.Do you have to start on Petrol then switch to gas?.I belive you loose the spare tyre bay (to install gas tank)and need to fill your tyres with puncture sealant.

There is a separate LPG forum on here guys.
It's expensive to install and you loose your spare, but if you are likely to keep your car for a while, it makes lots of sense - I've nearly paid for mine in just over a year.

Had my V70 'done' 4 years and 140,000 miles ago. Best auto-related thing I ever did. Still have a full-size spare, and a big quality car that costs 8p per mile in LPG. I got my money back in around 25,000 miles, and I reckon by now the petrol money I saved has paid for the car!
As has been said keep the car a long time and you'll be glad you did it. As for insurance I shopped round and got a discount for LPG. Specialist insurers rate LPG drivers as a safer bet because they're more careful! Try one or two of those meerkat sites. I ended up with Bell insurance. The LPGA also have good links with specialist insurers. Finally, don't forget to notify the DVLA - it's a legal obligation. Most important of all, check out the LPG forum on here.
