Some 850's had 17" wheels so as long as you get the right width and fit the right size tyres you'll be fine. Middle picture of my sig is my 850 running on 17" Comet wheels.

You might find this usefull:

http://www.alloywheels.com/tyrecalc.asp

It was easy for me as they were genuine Volvo wheels and had been fitted to the 850 so I knew the tyre sizes I needed. Speedo was actually more accurate than before (compared to my satnav). I don't have the car any more to check exactly what was fitted to them I'm afraid.

I have 18" fitted to John Cs old 855, no probs with arch rubbing, speedo etc.

I do have 7x18 fitted though which is tricky to find. 8x18 wheels will definately cause some issues and a 225 wide tyre would be problematic as well

I'm running 17 inch comets on my S70 but they are from a C70 so they are 7.5 inches wide with 225/45/17 tyres on.

I find that they rub the arches at full lock, however you can overcome this by fitting different steering stops (I'm having C70 ones fitted tomorrow). The tradeoff with this is that you increase the turning circle to that of a super tanker.

The other option would be to use narrow tyres but I'm not going to do this as I want some protection from kerbing the alloys, I can live with the turning circle.

The rim size is not important as that gets compensated by a reduced tyre sidewall height to produce the same (or near enough) rolling radius.

The thing you need to watch is the width and offset. Mine at 7.5J and an offset of 43 are about 10mm from the suspension strut and just fit within the legal limit for the arches.

On an 850 I think there is less room under the arches so you might need to have them rolled out if you go above 7-7.5J

Probably, just make sure you get the correct 12x1.75 bolts and correct spigot rings.

Oh and you'll be fecked if you buckle one at a later date as they are marked as clearance
