Help please air con fan cutting out.....
Hello every one.
I have recently brought an 850R and am having some probs with the heater/air con fan. If the engine is off the heater fan works on all speeds and dose not cut out but with the engine on as soon as i take it by half way 5 secs later it cuts out and will not start again until you switch the engine off. Even when it is on low it blows warm. Any ideas ????? Regards Smiggy |

I am sure other people may have ideas but it could be the fan motor resistor had an omega that played up and advised that could be the problem though never got round to doing it. do you have full climate or just a/c and standard heater.
full climate could bring other possible faults.

If it has an auto positon on the fan switch it be Electronic Climate Control (ECC). I expect all 'R' models have it.
I suspect the problem is parially seized fan bearings, the only realistic cure is a replacement fan. |

It has got the auto switch and im guessing that if it was a problem with the fan itself then it would do the same when the engine isnt running? but it seems to work fine when the engine isnt running

Hmm.
It maybe that without the engine running the battery volts are lower and consequently the running current of the fan is just below the level that causes a protective shutdown by the fan speed control unit. Once the engine is running and the battery volts and fan current are increased the shutdown is initiated. Best to measure the fan current and read the ECC fault codes for a better diagnosis. |
