Default Replace XC60 disc's and pads

I have a 63 2.4 d5 AWD XC60 and wanted to replace the discs and pads front and rear. I have never done this on any car before but wanted to give it a go. Is this a job that is fairly straight forward or one that will prove difficult? Is there any specialist tools I will need. Also which are the best discs and pads to go for, genuine Volvo ones or aftearket?

A tricky bit is getting the electric handbrake to release, but there is a way without needing to use a special tool... https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=206272

I bought Pagid discs and pads from the eurocarparts website when there was a 50% sale on. Their current discount code is MID60 which apparently gives you 50% off brake parts. You may have to physically measure your current disc diameters to ensure you order the correct replacements.

Yeah Euro carparts always seem to have a big discount on but then there prices are always way higher to begin with so not sure you really get that good a deal

I take your point, but I was happy with the total I ended up actually paying!

Albeit a bit late I recommend the Brembo pads. Very good stopping power and bed in very well.

I changed the rear pads and disks on my 2010 2.4d xc 60. There are a number of posts on the forum and on youtube of various methods to release the electronic parking brake (EPB). I used the technique of (carefully) disconnecting the 12v connector to the EPB and used a 12v supply to retract the parking brake. This way I did not have to disturb the EPB housing and weather seals.
I had to get a garage to do the fronts as a couple of the carrier bolts defeated me; I didn't have a long enough breaker bar. I used Volvo pads but they seem to have generated a lot of brownish brake dust, but they do not squeal.
