Got it back yesterday, not fixed but part ordered.

So, turns out there's also an issue with the multiplug cable which a lot of dealers could miss first time. Makes sense really as taking buttons out, and fitting new ones can be enough to disturb it and it'll be okay a while. So mine had new buttons not long back, failed and started working again. Turns out the plug's dodgy, so that's been ordered and will be replaced next week.

Called into a Volvo Dealership in the Netherlands today, mainly to buy 2 litres of Volvo screen wash and while there, I got one of their Technicians to have a look at the button problem and he said that a complete button assembly and wiring harness would be required.
Unfortunately, they would have to order it, so will have to wait until I get back home.

The Screen Wash?
The 2 litres cost, Euro6.70, just over £3/litre.
Not sure if it was on special offer, but the cheapest that I have seen in the U.K., is around £4.25/litre.
