Default 2003 V40 1.9D Retro Fit Cruise Control software question.

Hi
I have a 2003 V40 1.9D which I want to retrofit cruise control to. I know everything I need to complete it but Volvo say they don't do the ECU update anymore. My question is, can I buy software that will allow me to connect to my cars ECU and enable it or does the ECU literally need a software upgrade?

If it's just enabling it on software can you please advise me where to buy the software and what connector I need to connect my car to pc.

Cheers guys.

ECU software upgrades can only be done by Volvo or independents who have purchased the licence from Volvo.

Do a search on here as there have been many threads on the subject of retro fitting cruise. IIRC the diesel cars are more involved than petrols and may need the ECU from a car that already had cruise fitted. Not 100% sure on this, but a search on here will find the answer.

Even when it was available I seem to recall that the software update cost about £200 - much cheaper to buy a used ECU, lockset, immobiliser etc.

Cool

If you really do need cruise control, it might be cheaper to sell the car and buy one that already has it fitted.

I seriously doubt it would make much sense to replace a car with a new car of unknown provenance in order to save £70 - £80 on the required parts, especially when you could probably sell the replaced parts for almost as much to recoup your costs.

It's going to cost a lot more than 70 or 80 quid in parts and labour. Locating the correct ECU will not be easy, as there are not many diesels with cruise control in the scrap yard. Not sure if the type of fog and front lights is an issue in used ECU terms.

The complete kit with 2 keys frequently sells for around £80 on eBay - though, as you say it may take a while for exactly the right parts to become available -of course, labour would massively increase the cost, though I would assume that most forum members would wish to fit the kit themselves.

Yet the likes of Gatos will sort that out, send him yours and get fogs turned on!
Labour does not factor into DIY unless your paying yourself.....

In my case I do pay myself for my labour - after negotiation I agreed with myself that a rate of 3 bottles of good cider for each hour of labour was fair and equitable. I'm hoping that I need to do an engine swap soon, so I can go on a proper bender afterwards...
