I have no experience of the diesels, I can only go by what I have access to in the shape of service manuals. Please take it all with a huge pinch of salt and do your own research too.

The cruise on the diesels is all electronic. I believe you just need the switch and a set of clocks from a diesel with cruise.

I don't have any way of checking unfortunately, and I can't immediately find where I read the information.

A friend of my son's is planning to do the same job, if he does manage it I'll report back.

Another thing you would need on your car is a switch for the clutch pedal. I'm not sure what that looks like on the diesels but the wiring should be there already.

Cruise control relay

Then of course you'll need a few metres of vacuum tubing. Whilst retrofitting is possible it is a bit of a pain and requires rather a lot of disassembly..!
Right reporting back as promised.
What I thought was true and the above is completely incorrect for the diesel.
A diesel fly by wire pump (as I previously mentioned) is never going to work off a vacuum for cruise control.

Perfect. Good to know, as outlined above I was just going by the one resource I had access too - and the service manual did not specify any difference. It is fantastic knowing that the diesel is much easier to retrofit to, and to as such be able to properly answer the OP.

Cruise on diesels is a software function in the ECU. You could look for an ECU which had Cruise function and retrofit it together with the stalk.
Also needed ar the switches on the pedals so that the ECU registers if you brake or pressed the clutch.
