Default Hot brake disc

Hi. I just had all my discs & pads replaced on my c30 2008 2.0d but one disc get untouchably hot after a short journey. The other three discs are mildly warm to the touch but only through normal braking heat i guess. Will the hot disc wear/bed itself in over use i should i take my car back to the garage.

Sounds like a sticking caliper to me. Greasing the pins might help but you may well end up with a new caliper.

Question which end ?

is it a rear or front wheel thats getting hot?, rear calpers often have an additional function for the handbrake function that could also be a source of the problem, but still sounds very likey a caliper issue..

From past experience, if theres nothing obvious, replace the caliper, they are not that expensive. I took mine off, and freed it off, but started sticking again a few days later, boiled the grease out of the wheel bearing, then had to change the wheel bearing, which was more expensive than the caliper! (which i also had to replace).

Take it back to garage in first instance since they have recently replaced discs and pads. The caliper piston will have been freed up as part of the process to make way for the new pads. They might be able to shed some more light on it though , but as others have said may be new caliper time. You can always strip the piston / seal and regrease with red grease and see how you get on.

Smile Simple idea,

A good way to check for excessive heat, is to touch the centre of the wheel near the wheel bolts, then compare with the heat on the opposite side (same end ...), youll have some heat depending on how much hard braking youve been doing but comparing with the other side will give you a better idea of which caliper is binding... even saves getting some burnt fingers in the process 😊
