Gearbox stiff when cold
The gearbox on my 04 v50 has been stiff for a while whilst cold and works perfectly once warm. Would an oil change be beneficial for it and perhaps loosen it up again or do I have the symptoms of a serious problem? I don’t know too much about these gearbox’s so any info will help. I feel there could be a subtle whistling noise coming from it which I initially thought was the turbo but now I’m not so sure. Any advice would be great!
Many thanks, jack |

Mines always felt a bit notchy when cold, the whistle could be turbo spooling up, comes in at about 1800 rpm. Mines more noticeable when colder too!

Yeah it’s only stiff for the first couple of changes as though the oil settles. The whistle/whine is constant, doesn’t go up or down, more noticeable at speed when I’m ticking along at 2000rpm. Have you had a gear oil change recently?

My 2012 Drive had a very stiff gearchange in sub-zero temps. Eased off after a couple of miles but the first and only car I've ever experienced it on

Ditto, or V50 1.6D is really notchy for the first 2-3 changes when the outside temperature is cold. After that it's fine.
