Darn! :-(

Before spending on the bits, I'd be tempted to get the seized pump out of there and keeping the belt on to keep the cams and crank aligned how it stopped, rotate the engine by hand to the timing marks and actually see if the timing has slipped. You never know you may be lucky.....

I have been home about an hour and a half...

Whilst feeling pretty cr*p injectors out and rocker cover off.

4 out of the 5 cylinders have valve damage (I haven't removed the cams) and the casting has broken around the valve guides.

Before I go any further... how likely is it that the pistons will have little damage and be re-useable?

Swapping the head for another one doesn't worry me but i don't really want to be putting a new engine in (would have to farm it out)

dont worry about the piston they are very robust thick items just clean off anything stuck up as this can cause pre ignition if it gets hot

Will cost less to fix than replace it... and will take less time

Lowish mileage and a rare spec... its getting repaired on way or another

you need to see the hole pattern on the edge of the head gasket , they should have explained it to you ! It is shown on the parts listing .

and NO you must never skim the head , They don't warp .

Skimming (planing) an OHC head changes the timing.
