Ive tried to reset the “ regular service needed “ dash light. Had a few attempts at it with no luck. But now my screen is going nuts and flickering. Have i damaged it somehow? Heres a vid...

What year is the car?
I take it this happened not while you were attempting to reset the service reminder. That could be just co-incidence.
Pre facelift cars have issues with the DIM failing. The problem is down to dry joints on one of the chips at the back.
They can be repaired for about 60 quid.
A member on here, Spokoluzik aka Lucas at volvodiagnostics in London is one outfit doing it.
There are a few big threads here about it.

Looks like an early model from the dash photos - no silver rings around the clocks...

Possibly an indication of a DIM failure as you've advised

Definitely DIM failure and nothing to do with resetting the service light.
I used Lukas as mentioned in Brendan's post last summer when my 2002 DIM was failing and it's been fine since.

As others gave mentioned, its a failure of the DIM.

My 2003 has already been repaired before I got it 2 years ago. The BBA-Reman warranty stickers all over the back of it give the game away.

I also agree with DIM failure mine did this exact same thing on the driver information screen and it then deteriorated to just random pixels and then no display at all.

Speak to VolvoDiagnostics, quick service and fast turnaround along with very reasonable costs.

If you pay up front for a reconditioned unit from Lukas that he programs with your current vehicle mileage he will refund money when you send him your unit. Even though his service is very quick, in my situation I needed the car for work and couldn’t afford to have it sat on the drive waiting for my removed unit to be delivered, repaired and returned, I opted to pay the for an off the shelf unit. Since replacing the unit I’ve not had any issues at all.

I also used Lukaz when mine failed. I posted it off on a Wednesday and had it back 2 days later. It's been perfect since.
