Default Strange Premuim speaker problem.

Hi

The main speaker in the passenger rear door and the main speaker on the passenger side tailgate pillar are not working.
The tweeters on both are though.
I've checked the connections on the speakers and unplugged the amp and all is fine with no corrosion.
As both main speakers are not working I'm thinking the amp is faulty but does the amp have different channels for the main speakers and tweeters ?

The amp has part no. 31215619 and 31215620 on it.

It's on a 2007/8 car.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Rob

I forgot to add that the tweeters are built into the main speaker. And there are only 2 wires going into the speaker unit that must power the main speaker and the tweeter.

So, if the tweeter Seems to work then the amp but be sending a signal so the amp must be ok and it's the main speaker that is faulty ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Rob

If the tweeters run off the main speaker and work then I would be inclined to blame the main speaker coil for failing. Difficult to diagnose without the vehicle in front of me. I have found speakers that failed due to the wire pulling out of the coil from the terminals. Give them a gentle wiggle to see if any sound appears.

One of mine doesn't work. I found the magnet n the door itself so it might be worth looking to make sure the magnet is on the speaker. I also have a front speaker that has a horrible distortion on certain frequencies. I intend to get some replacements when funds allow.

Thanks for the replies.

Could I fit aftermarket speakers instead of getting new dynaudio speaker from Volvo ?

I'm sure a good quality pair of pioneer would be less than the dynaudio.

Thanks

Unfortunately I cannot see the back of the speaker to check for the magnets as it's riveted to the door.

Does anyone know with speakers that have built-in tweeters, do they have a crossover built into them to send different signals to the different tweeter and mid range speaker ?

Also, if the amp was faulty, Could it still send a signal to power the tweeter but not the main mid-range speaker? I presume they are on the same channel ?

Thanks

You can feel the back of the speaker through the door. Carefully pull the large foam panel back and you can reach in.

Default Update

Update for anyone in the future with the same problems.

I replaced the driver door and passenger door speakers.

Luckily they now work as Volvo said I couldn't return them.

They cost around £105 each.

The tailgate pillar speaker is actually working but as its only a tweeter they sound tinny by themselves.
That would have been another £105 otherwise.

Hope this helps.

I also have a problem with my speakers. I’m getting bass and treble from the front and right front but only a little treble from the others. Could it be the amp or head unit. Help on this would be much appreciated.

I had to replace my both rear speaker as they weren’t working. Volvo gave me silly prices when I had my v50 so I never got them, I’ve had the vibe speakers before and though they were on par with the original so bought them again.

I did not fit the tweeters though and I should have done, still improved the sound 👍
