Default 940 manual gearbox bellhousing crack?

Just noticed that the sleeve which holds the clutch slave cylinder on the bellhousing has a horizontal crack - at least I assume it is a crack and not designed that way?!

Seems very old/dirty so not affecting the clutch operation at all. Has anyone else noticed a crack in this location? Bit of a pain since it is aluminium and I won't be able to fix it with my MIG.

Yeah, they break...

Then you need to do a repair...

All sealed and painted...

I found that a BMX stunt peg had exactly the same inner diameter, so cut it to replace the ally that broke off and welded a strap round it and then bolted that onto the ally casing.

Bit of a pain, but saved me soooo much money and faff.

This required no ally welding, just the steel I bolted on... If you need more help, just ask, I may have some stunt peg left even :-)

^^^ that's the best bodge/fix I've seen for a while!

I could weld it up for you but judging by your location, you're miles away!

I was impressed myself, but the last thing I wanted was it falling off!
The original ally was that crumbly, I didn't even considered getting it welded, and went straight for the steel solution.
