This is a very real problem that hopefully will be properly rectified by Volvo, hopefully before these cars become shunned and worthless on the secondhand market.
No argument there.. But there’s a problem with carbon buildup generally, with all EGR-equipped turbodiesels- and arguably some (for eg, the VW-group variable-vane turbine TDIs..) resulting in serious issues (impeller seizures, even total failures, resulting in metal shreddings ending up in the combustion chamber..), yet TDIs still sell like hot cookies and retain their value pretty well (btw, my current company car is an Audi TDI, and I’ve owned a number of Audis) My point is yes, there’s a potential problem- but no, your car won’t explode and disappear in flames. And I don’t expect this recall (if/when it becomes a full-on recall..) to significantly affect the resale value..

No, the actual recall itself shouldn't affect resale value but if the eventual 'fix' for this deforming manifold problem turns out to be ineffective or temporary (as with the EGR cooler debacle) then this surely will affect reputation and resale value.

Agree. But this is a far more serious issue.. I’ve read somewhere the other day that this affects a million vehicles sold. I suspect the fix is going to be a comprehensive one. Or else Volvo sales will suffer.. seriously. Last I checked Volvo sales in EU were more than 60% diesels..

For me, at least, the greater worry is the harm done to the secondhand value of my car if Volvo fail to provide an effective and PERMANENT fix for this problem (which is already being reported in the media)... unfortunately this is something that Volvo has so far failed to do in relation to the EGR valve and cooler blockages that are already getting these cars a bad reputation.
Weird, I'd rather be broke than burnt.

BBC Radio 2 midday news just now, 'Volvo recalling almost 70k cars in the uk because of a fire risk related to an engine problem, the issue effects certain models built between 2014 and 2019'

It's all over the press now - slightly fast and loose with the position given that a recall hasn't yet been issued - here's one such article with a somewhat misleading and sensationalist title https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/wires/...fire-risk.html

Very dramatic wasn't it, scaremongery as no cars have actually caught fire ...

This link suggest's it's the Turbo-Charged diesels only;

"The impacted models have the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine and are only those produced over the last five years."

Anyone know is that's correct?

If so would that mean only D5's may be affected?

Is it linked to the powerpulse hose?
