I emailed Volvo as to the possibility of this functionality being made available to older MYs and received the following reply-

Regrettably - the Volvo On Call Application is only available for vehicle's with Model Year 12 functionality, and at the moment there is no software to update previous Model Year vehicle's to make their cars compatible with the application. This is currently under investigation however, and I would suggest that you keep in contact with your Volvo dealership for updates as / when they become available.

I wonder if they will do anything, it could well encourage those who are perhaps thinking about letting their subscriptions slip, to keep on going, with the promise of flashy new toys.

Judging by the Sport mode update post, it seems that for many dealerships, they'll be the last to know!

Thanks for that. It does sound slightly promising as they say its software rather than the hardware that will need up dating.
I live in hope.

Considering that they know where your car is on the current system (so obviously held in a database somewhere) there is certainly no reason why they can not provide the location tracker and trip logging etc.

Im less sure about the fuel levels and individual door/ window status etc, you'd think as again it can be done remotely on the current system, that you'd be able to lock/ unlock the car too, with what is currently in place on pre MY2012 vehicles.

Hopefully they'll do something, otherwise I think I'll bin of the subscription if it looks like theyre onlu ever going to produce things for the latest MYs

I was speaking with the service manager at my dealers about the app. He said he'd been to a volvo meeting where they were talking about things they were working on, though he didn't give any specific examples he said they were getting heavily involved in electronics and apps.

There is definitely so much potential for the system, which is the reason why I spent money on OnCall, as I say, I'll be immensely frustrated if they only develop new things for the latest MY version.

Hopefully they'll see the value of encouraging us sub MY2012 mortals to carry on paying for the service!

Just asked my dealer if my new MY 2012 expected within next 3 weeks can have the applicable telematics box fitted post delivery as a dealer fit. I will let you know when I hear anything....................I can see no logical reason why it cannot!

This is indeed the case, when first enquiring as to the possibility of the new functionality being available on a MY11, I forgot to inform the agent I already had OC installed and she replied with-

"Further to your query, I regret that the Volvo On Call system is only available as a factory fit option, and cannot be retrofitted past the point of manufacture."
