Default Help: keyfob has died

Hi all,

I have a 2008 v50 and the after locking the car to go in and pick up my chinese, I found that when I went back to the car the fob just wouldn't do anything and wouldn't open the car. Also worryingly the manual key didn't work in the door either!

Luckily I have a spare fob and after a 2 mile walk back to the house and a 2 mile walk back to the car, the spare saved the day. I figured the battery had died so I have changed the battery in the original fob bit it still wont work.

I've done a bit of googling and have seen stories that when the battery dies in the fob the fob has to be re-synced to the car via Volvo....is this true? I'm a bit nervous now in case the 2nd fob dies and the car turns into a garden ornament that I can't get in to.

Thanks in advance

Hi
On my 2005 one of the microswitches failed. you should hear/feel a click when pressed. As far as I am aware the key does not need re synced.

Worth checking if the new battery is the correct one/not flat.

Thanks for the reply. I don't think it would be this though as none of the buttons work since. Any other ideas?

The spare fob is not working since purchased, it clicks all buttons fine, PCB is defective. Only unlocking feature is not working. I found a company (autokey) willing to fix it for 60 euros. For now I did not bother, the other one is working fine.

I had a similar issue with my '04 V50. I called several auto locksmiths and they all told me only Volvo could resolve my issue with the type of key that model used. One trip to the dealers in Maidstone and a significantly lighter wallet later and it was sorted.

If anybody knows of an auto locksmith in Kent that can do these keys I would love to know about them should they be needed in the future.
