Take it for a run to see if the bubbles disperse, i had a stream of bubbles going round but they soon disappeared!

You need a new fuel filter AND housing. Air always gets in via the connectors.

Bleeding the fuel lines, priming the filters etc will save your starter motor coming to a premature end

Jump starting or bump starting ?
Bump starting the car doesn't use the starter motor !
Cranking the engine in the key does.

It'll save you the price of a new starter after you cook it and its also primes the system and gets the air out. The volvo doesn't have a self priming system so the easiest way is to prime it like this

i got round the changing my fuel filter housing tonight..Thanks for the heads up on how to prime the system .
I dont know if i was lucky or what ,but i didnt have to use the priming bulb on the end of the return pipe as instructed here.
After disconnecting the fuel line from the housing i thought all the diesel in the clear pipe to the pump would disappear back into the tank ,but on mine it didnt all i got was about 1 inch of a air bubble .

inserted the new housing filled it with diesel screwed the top back on connected all the hoses etc fired her up started 1st time ,not a stumble of revs nothing.took it for a run all seems fine .

hope i have done it correctly ,after all the comments on here saying how difficult they are to start after changing the housing/filter, i was worried .seems like luck was on my side.
