Drivers Seat Control Panel
Hi All,
Have noticed that the seat control panel on my 2005 XC90 has developed a crack and I can see that it will not be long before it disintegrates. Its very vunerable to damage when exiting the car. My question is, "Is it a DIY job?" I have Torquebits and reasonable mechanical skills however I do not want to start the job and find that I cannot finish for some reason also as it is a business car the vehicle may suddenly be needed. Any comments would be appreciated. Russ |

Takes less than 10 minutes to do - the panel costs around £15. I only know this because I asked the same question a while back- still haven't gotten around to doing mine!

As said above it really is pretty easy to replace, and it's not very expensive to buy the replacement part either, which is a bonus.
If you would like a replacement part from us at FRF Volvo please call us on either of our direct telephone numbers below, remembering to quote discount code 'C3' when calling so who ever you speak to knows that you are an online customer and will give you the best possible discount. Simon

Hi All
Thanks for your help, have glued the split with Araldite but I know that it will not last. Thanks Simon for your reply, will be ordering as you suggest. Just about to write down the VIN number of my vehicle and then I am on the phone. Thanks once again, Russ |

I wonder if it would be worth investigating the possibility of having a carbon fibre part made?
Someone must know someone in the business who could do us a deal for a group buy. |

When I bought my XC90 the panel had broke. I bought a new one from Volvo who told me they sold loads of these parts! Having replaced mine, there is obviously a design fault, it isnt fixed strongly enough for its position. I personally think that the aluminium strip of meteal that the plastic trim slots in to should be steel or something a lot stiffer as it is this that bends as you exit the car taking the trim with you. Because it bends, and if it bends to much so the plastic disengages that is why the trim either splits at its weakest point or the front fixing screw breaks.
Having said that, a little thought and care getting out of the car also helps!!! Passenger side was broke on mine as well, both now fixed. Cheers Eric |

Hi Simon
Ordered as promised and received my drivers Seat control panel within 2 days, great service. Not fitted yet as DIY Repair still useable. Agree with all the above comments, its our backsides that do the damage as we are forced to slide the last couple of inches when exiting the car. Do Volvo supply longer legs? Russ |

When I replaced mine I noticed that in the area where it had split,
the new part had now had some strengthening "vanes" added, so at least Volvo do seem to have tried to do something about it :-) Dead easy to replace: Towards the front end of the panel - which is accessible from under the front of the seat - there is just one torx headed screw to undo and remove. Once that's removed, the panel will swing up slightly from the front edge, pivoting on the rear end which has a clip on mount. Disconnect the wiring plug, then pivot the panel upwards and pull it away from the rear mounting.
