Default Starter motor problem?

Hi all

So i got into my 2005 V50 2.0l D after work the other day and went to start it but nothing? All dash lights on ok and no dash warnings either. After putting the car into reverse and giving it a bit of a rock it fired up just fine. The thing that puzzles me is that once it's fired up, i can turn the engine off and on multiple times with no problems but once it's been driven and then turned off, i get the same problem again untill i rock it to get it started again? I assume the battery is fine as it starts up fine after the cars been rocked? Is this just a case of a failed starter motor or something simple or hopefully not worse?

Many thanks for any advice.

try tapping the starter next time with a toffee hammer , it is probably the starter motor, these Ford ones can be trouble some after 60000 miles or so .

Thanks Clan, i will give that a try. The car has 185k and owned from 126k so not sure if it's the original as I've not changed one since my possession. It's done well if it is the original I suppose!

Thanks again
