Default Anyone pressed control arm bushes in?

I have an advisory on a front control arm bush.

Has anybody any experience on pressing new bushings in?

Genuine bushes 31304040 / 31277881 and a 12 tonne hydraulic press from eBay probably come in about the same as two new genuine arms.

Hi there, I have done a couple of members on the xc90 group.

They are a pain but can be done with some heat (old bush), a good hydraulic press and most of all a good set of press cups.

It can be done..

Thanks for the reply.

It seems to me, unless you already have the hydraulic press and press kit, it’s not worth it.

I’ve since realised that only Volvo bushes can be trusted to last and they are pricey.

Looks like I’ll just buy the whole arms when the time comes.

I agree, after some feed back it's better going with the OEM Arm or Bush to be fair.

Equivalent versions I have used are Lamforder Or Meyle HD with good results.

Ryan.

Poly. Easy to fit by hand with no force required, even easier to forget about once they're in.

I did so for the small ones with vertical bolt. IF doing everything correctly, it is actually very easy, I could do this again and again without any stress. But often times it's hard to transmit the exact information and someone may skip or not do correctly a step and get into trouble. As for the front horizontal ones, they last longer so may or may not need replaced, but they pose more problems, although the process would be similar. They are harder to drill out. Also their outer metal jacket has to slide longer into the arm, so that's stressful. When pressing in we really need to make sure they don't rotate too much, to keep the angle of the bolt holes (also remember to place the correct face for the holes on the right side). May also need to support the control arm on the other side which is not flat. Also, they need to be pressed in tighter than the rear ones because they take the forces when the car is breaking. It's still doable, but I would certainly start with the rear ones to build confidence and maybe at some time later would try the front ones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0q4nku0Rz8
