Default Window chrome trim

Understandably on a 10 year car, the plastic “chrome” trim around the windows is far from best.

Thinking of either replacing with new - expensive? Or taking the old stuff off and wrapping or painting it black. How easy is it to get off / on without damage?

If I go down the painting route - I presume a sanding to key then etch primer with a rattle can top coat for plastics?

If I go down the wrapping route - would that affect the trim going back on?

[both are jobs to keep me occupied during lockdown]

Any experience/thoughts greatly welcomed.

Thanks.

Watching with interest...
I found some Chrome effect brush on enamel paint in the shed. Been meaning to try this on a small piece of the trim. If it works, I might do it all.

Are you also looking to renew the thin chrome trims that go around the windows? Mine are far from shiny and I was interested in options available.

A vinyl wrapping company could sort those quickly without the need for removing them.

Yeah - they are the bits I'm looking to make black somehow.

I too would like to do this. I’ve often thought about the best possible route. Watching with interest.

I can see me getting some masking tape, etch primer and black spray next week to give it a go.... I would have thought somebody would have tried this already though so could possibly shed some advice!

Looking at mine closely, I'm pretty sure its metal and not plastic. I'd try 2000 grit wet and dry and metal polish. If it doesn't work you're no worse off.
