Default Throttle controller

Hi, I have ordered a new throttle controls unit. It was advertised as to be compatible with my car (V70 2003 2.4 non turbo petrol auto 140). It doesn’t look the same as the one that is on the car. Here is the stupid question, this is a third party part would it matter of they don’t look the same seeing it’s not an original part?
Also, the Haynes manual says that the thing has to be programmed by a Volvo specialist is that true?

Thanks for any advise on this....

Rob

If it doesn't look the same it is no good , you have the later BOSCH type I expect which is simple with simple electronics inside ...and doesn't need programming .

the one on the left is the old type full of electronics , the two on the right are the later type , your car must be a 2002 model year . No they are completely different systems ...not compatible …

Hi Davebb, the first (left) one is the one that's on the car, the 2 other ones are of the new one. The car was registered on Jan 2003 so I think the car itself is 2002 right enough.

I would very much appreciate your advice Clan, indeed if a 3rd party one might be available and if not where I could get an original one.

Thanks

Rob

The one on the left is like the one on my P1 which is a Magnetti Marelli unit.Depending on why you're wanting to change it you are aware that you can change the throttle position sensor to contactless using the Sacer method?Your throttle body has two sensors but you only need to change one of them[the one that's between the TB and the engine]doing this on your TB means you don't need to re-programme it.Contactless TPS are available on e-bay.

I guess volvo still sell them as it is a vital part , the did reduce the price quite a lot the last time I fitted one several years ago , they must be Virgin ( new) to enable the correct software to be loaded by the dealer ..
