Had an oil change done in our XC70 D4 AWD automatic from 2016 the other day, after 110000 km. Noticeable difference in gear change quality for that car too.

I have instituted an ATF sump dump and refill when the car is serviced as its standard servicing routine so that the transmission oil quality is slowly improving rather than deteriorating. Not ideal but better than just keeping my fingers crossed.

Default Volvo xc70 2007 autobox

Hi, following applying an old excellent post on auto fluid change...transformed my box changes so much smoother...a remaining question. Does the xc70 2007 6 speed auto box have a serviceable filter?

It has one, but it's effectively unserviceable as it's buried in the bowels of the torque converter IIRC

Hi,

Excellent thread. One addition which may be helpful.

Does anyone know, offhand, what the internal diameter of the fill hole is?

This would save having to disconnect the air box/maf meter etc to find out, and then putting it all back together again to go the shop to buy a funnel or pipe of the correct size.

The O-ring (# 30735186) is listed as '15.41 x 2.21' on various web sites, so I would think that the fill hole is most likely 15mm.

I see that you are local to me in Watford. You're very welcome to borrow the narrow funnel that I bought and used last year to refill the gearbox on my XC70. Please PM me if you'd like to do this and I will reply with my address.

Changed mine today on 135k, no doubt original oil. It was black. No hint of brown. Didn't smell burnt, so that was good. I put 5 lots of 4L through it. Sump dumps. Final dilution was 3.125% old. Still didn't look very red. No improvement to slight hesitation on gear change. Needs to have counter reset and maybe adaptions etc.

I would advise going for a drive inbetween flushes so the fluid is thoroughly mixed. Or - sump dump and fill, drive around normally for a day or so depending on how much you use the car, say 50-100 miles then do it again. I have found this much better than sequential dumps just cycling through the gears without driving anywhere.
My experience on 07 v70 and 12 xc70
