clutch change - general - HOW to pull g/box off engine
Im changing the clutch on a RWD van, Gearbox is heavy. I cant budge it. Yes all the bolts are undone, prop is off etc. I need to pull the box backwards,
HOW !!!!

I've normally just wriggled it side to side while trying to pull backwards. Usually just a matter of getting the first motion shaft to lose its grip. If you can get it to open up a crack use a wooden wedge and pull against that.

The full weight of the box must be supported so that the gearbox input shaft and the gearbox itself comes off the dowel pegs square. The slightest amount of weight will cause it to jam and not slide rearwards. The dowel pegs will be a tight fit and could well be corroded, so working with a wedge as above post will be needed.

Be careful as the gearbox bellhousing will probably be cast, which can be very brittle.
