V70 1998 cannot open boot
Hi all,
I have a door key, a working remote, central lock button on the drivers door switch pack, and the boot lid has lock barrel (same key) and there is also a release handle on the inside of the boot. The boot is closed, and I cannot open it using any of the above. Boot interior trim including the release surround is already half off. (Usual trim clip failure). What do I need to do to get the boot open? Thanks Steve

Inner panel was loose and that let me remove the interior panel and the interior release mechanism.
The two 10mm bolts were only finger tight. Maybe someone had been there before me? One of the push rods was out of place (I have attached a photo of that) and the other was missing altogether (I have include a picture from Robert DIY). I pushed and pulled at various bits of the release mechanism near the actuator and it eventually popped loose. There were two pea sized bits of gravel where the latch hooks onto the locking bar near the bumper. Maybe that had jammed the latch? I put the rod that had popped out, back into place, and added a bit of silicon sealant into the fitting to help it stay there. Robert DIY has done a good post on this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5K7Mf0E_j7o&t=418s I will put up a wanted post for the rod that was missing. And will leave the interior parts off for a while to see how it goes. Steve

I have a similar problem when the weather is hot. It's absolutely fine during spring, autumn and winter!! So is definitely the heat in my case. Bit awkward when I need to get my wheelchair in or out of the boot! I find using both hands one on either side of the latch is the most reliable way to get it open if it's going to work. Ah the quirks of a 20 year old car 😂
