Default 850 wheels on a P2

Hi all,

New to the forum, and hoping someone may be able to help. I am looking to change the wheels on my V70 P2 ( currently 17 inch), has anyone any experience of fitting 16 inch 850 alloys - or know whether it will work? Seems to work out fine in theory : https://www.willtheyfit.com/index.ph...6-5&offset2=43

Many thanks in advance, Matt

Beware - depending upon the year of the 850 rims they can have a smaller internal diameter and won't clear the discs & calipers on all P2s, also early 850's had four bolt wheels where as the P2's are 5 bolt. Switching rims/wheels between P2 models isn't a problem usually but even then many P2 rims won't fit a bigger disced T5.

NB your link quoted states, "Compared to your existing wheel, this new wheel will have an inner rim which is 18.1mm closer to the suspension strut. The outer rim will poke out 58.1mm more than before" - that "poke out 58.1mm" distance puts the outer edge of the rim outside the wheel arch which I believe can make it an MOT fail in that you have an "unguarded rotating edge" - ""the wheel may not protrude beyond the top of the wheel arch"". There's also the issue of increased spray in wet conditions but I've no idea how a tester might interpret any of the regulations - it might be interpreted as an advisory on the day.

The 5 lugs 850 have a different lug neck and different lug seat inside the holes. But they work fine on my 2003 S60, I actually find them easier to tighten down. I'm talking about a 15" wheel, so not sure how this will work on larger wheels, plus as above, one needs to verify if the wheel is clearing the front calipers.

I know they have the same thread size, but do they the same face/seat angle on the bolts where they make contact with the wheel?

no, it is completely different. the surface is much smaller on 850 wheels, and also has a different angle. more so, the part around the holes doesn't sit against the hub plate but rather has a gap in between. the lugs are consequently different as well on these two aspects (but same otherwise).

that said, I have the 850 wheels with the P2 lugs on my S60 and no issues until now, the lugs torque down properly, and stay secured. In fact, I think there were available steel wheels for P2 which where exactly like the 850 wheels at the lug face/seat. I bough these wheels from a person who had them on a V70 P2 as well.

The wheels are these http://www.choicewheels.com/Product/...95_1394934.htm

Thanks for all the help everyone, much appreciated. I guess, the ideal solution would be to try and off them up to the hub and see in person. Still a little confused though sorry, would I need to get 850 wheel bolts or would the current P2 bolts keep them on ( should they fit!)?

Many thanks, Matt

This may help, but I need to mention all wheels were only 15" so not sure about higher sizes
