V70: Electrical - Centre console rear illumination

I was traveling the internet last night and found information about the centre console rear illumination.
Apparently the storage area behind the console should light up when the car is unlocked.
As luck would have it, I now can't find the info 🤔

Mine does not do this but appears to have an opaque slot behind it. So does anybody know whether it is a common fault and how to change the bulbs if any?

The floating center console has a gap behind it with a small storage shelf in this gap at the bottom.
If you look in the gap, on the rear of the console there appears to be a lens from which light should be emitted.
You really need to stick your head in the passenger footwell and look at the rear of the console.

It might have the same status as the lights to illuminate the interior door latch. Only fitted to a select model, and not ever fitted to a model for sale in this country. You could entertain us by continuing the thread, with photos, as you pull apart your centre console, and then try to put it together again. Or just fumble in the dark as I suspect the rest of us do.

Though, I must admit you have piqued my interest...

You might be correct about this being a spec option
Because the space is so inaccessible and awkward to not only look in but to use, the illumination must be for visual effect. I would guess it is illuminated by an LED and a light tube.
One day, I might strip the console and see how it all works......... 🤔🤔

Just checked and as you can see I have the light there.

I do have interior door handle lighting as standard maybe it's a trim level thing.

Was on earlier when the radio was on night mode, will have to see if on during the day.
