Hi,

On the 940 I suspect that the horn should be inside the engine compartment and next to the expansion tank..
Between Expansion tank and Air Filter Box...
Have a look at the following photo:

The two horn underneath are your regular horns as the Volvo is fitted with a twin horn system.

Des. . .

I've been asked about this one many times Here is one of my recent replies:

On a 940, the alarm horn is located inside a metal box located under the washer reservoir - if you look just in front of the drivers side front wheel, you'll be able to see it. The box has many holes in it to allow transmission of the siren noise, however, its location also means that the box is bombarded with rain, road debris, etc, so it and the horn inside it tend to rust away. Any leakage from the washer reservoir also ends up in this box! Great design eh?

If your alarm doesn't make a noise (but the indicators flash when the alarm is triggered), then its odds on that either the horn itself or its connections (or both!) have corroded away.

This applies only to the factory fitted VolvoGuard alarm of course - aftermarket alarms are located whereever the installation engineer sees fit.

Hope this helps
